MAZON Dinner - Saturday, February 4, 7:00 pm

LEFTY’s MAZON Dinner is one of the greatest annual events at Temple Isaiah. The MAZON Dinner is an annual benefit dinner catered and coordinated by Temple Isaiah’s High School Youth Group, LEFTY. This is an incredible community-wide event that highlights the very essence of this community – Tzedakah (justice), Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Hachnasat Orchim (generosity and hospitality).

All proceeds from the event go to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. MAZON is a national, nonprofit agency that allocates donations from the Jewish community to prevent and alleviate hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds.

To help us prepare for the big event, please RSVP by January 11. to RSVP or for more information, contact Brittany Bladd at (781)799-1941 or bbladd09@gmail.com.

Brotherhood Meeting January 12, 2012, 7:30 p.m.

The January brotherhood meeting will be held Thursday January 12th at 7:30. Brotherhood meets each month, to plan and manage its activities. All congregants (male or female) are welcome to this month's meeting, which will held in one of the second floor classrooms. Brotherhood Breakfast on the History and Evolution of the Israeli Military - January 22 9:15 - 11:00 A.M.

Geva Barash

The Israeli military has evolved from a group of volunteers in its early years to the mighty regional power that it has today. This progression has come with much pain and many casualties. How did Israel build its army? During this program, we will discuss the progress of the military, from the impact of the French embargo to Israel’s reliance on the US as its main supplier. We will also discuss the challenges that the military is facing due to the current world economy and the effect of the unprecedented ease with which information flows.

The speaker, Geva Barash, is the President of Barash Consulting. He was formerly the CEO and the Executive VP of Sales and Marketing at I-Ray Technologies, Inc.’s US subsidiary. Prior to his employment at I-Ray technologies, Mr. Barash established a distinguished career both in the United States and abroad. He was the OEM Account Manager of Microsoft Israel, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Tescom, Ltd., the Sales Director of Idanit, USA, Inc., and the Vice President of Sales and Marketing of NUR America, Inc.

Mr. Barash served as a Lieutenant in the Israeli Air Force. After completing his military service, he worked for the Intelligence Bureau of Israel while attending Tel Aviv University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in economics and business management. Geva Barash is currently spearheading a volunteer run organization that he founded to re-open school libraries that were shut down due to state budget issues in Massachusetts. Currently, Mr. Barash has opened about 20 libraries; more than 1500 new books were donated to each library during the last school year. Currently there are over 180 volunteers in the Ashland town alone.

General admission includes breakfast and is $10, or free with Brotherhood membership (annual dues cost $45; spouses can join for $35; dues are free for new Temple Isaiah members). For further information, see the Brotherhood web site or contact Murry Awrach at 781-861-0342 or Bob Zacher at 781-646-6027, or email brotherhood@templeisaiah.net.

2012 Achim Winter Dinner & Discussion- January 26

Deli dinner at 6:30 P.M.

7:00 pm: Self-directed discussion facilitated by George Foote

"Who or what has inspired me? A teacher, event, public figure, special place, family member, book or movie?”

Many of us, as men, either "grow-up" ( i.e. if you feel you have done this) or otherwise come of age due to the inspiration received from a particular person. Sometimes this is a parent, sibling or grandparent. Sometimes it is a significant other or spouse. It may be a best friend, teacher, or coach. It can even be a historical figure, mythical figure, politician, Denver quarterback (just kidding!), or movie character. We find inspiration in books and at work, or in our congregations or while at recreation.

But speaking at this get together is not mandatory. Listening is always a good thing. Come to the dinner for the food, come for the discussion, but come to spend some time with your Achim brothers and to make new friends.”

Dinner will again include a variety of deli choices from The Board Room Restaurant, which is owned and operated by our fellow Ach, Jeff Goldberg (Do NOT go there!--Event will be at the Temple) There will be vegetarian options, followed by excellent desserts. BYOB if desired…nothing wrong with bringing a six-pack or bottle of wine! Would appreciate if you would RSVP right away so we can get an accurate head count for ordering food. We will collect $15 at the door to cover our costs (cash or check).

Jeff needs to know for food prep purposes, so please RSVP now to: georgefoote@rcn.com.
