B’nai Mitzvah: It’s not just for teenagers! This fall we will begin a new Adult B’nai Mitzvah cohort. The journey to Adult B’nai Mitzvah at Temple Isaiah is a two-year process. The first year involves participation in a Hebrew course through the “Ivrit la-Kol” collaborative* plus six study sessions with Rabbi Brown. The second year will include regular study with the clergy team, including study of the liturgy of the service, Torah reading skills and trope, Torah study and D’var Torah preparation. The second year will culminate with a Shabbat service led by the Adult B’nai Mitzvah students in the late spring of 2012.

Interested? Sign up with Rabbi Brown’s assistant, Jenny Keegan (jkeegan@templeisaiah.net) by September 16th.

The first meeting with Rabbi Brown will take place on Sunday, Sept 26th from 9:00-10:30 a.m.

*Participants must also sign up independently for the “Ivrit la-Kol” course. There are three 7-week sessions during the year. Participants should plan to enroll in all three sessions. Each session costs $250 ($750 total) – the cost should not be an obstacle to participation. Please talk to Rabbi Brown about payment plans or financial assistance. The “Learning to Read” Hebrew class will be offered on Sunday mornings at Temple Isaiah from 9:00-10:30, beginning October 3rd. “Ivrit la-Kol” offers classes for many different Hebrew levels. A participant who already knows how to read Hebrew should register for another class that will strengthen his/her Hebrew skills. The course listing can be found on the Temple Isaiah website. If you have questions about what level is most appropriate for you, please contact Rabbi Brown.
