6:15 pm Shabbat Service
7:00 pm Dinner - RSVPs are required as space is limited
7:45 pm Presentation by Mark Hetfield, President and CEO of HIAS

Temple Isaiah is a proud participant of Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society's National Refugee Shabbat. In the face of unprecedented attempts to close America’s doors to those seeking freedom from violence and persecution, this is a critical moment to give voice to our values as Jews and as Americans. Join Mark Hetfield, President and CEO of Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), as together we deepen our understanding of today’s global refugee crisis, connect to the national Jewish movement for refugees, celebrate local acts of welcome and recommit to putting our values into action.

The Shabbat service will be followed by a complimentary congregational dinner and a presentation by special guest speaker, Mark Hetfield. Please use the form below to RSVP for dinner as space is limited. We regret that childcare will not be available during this service.

Mark Hetfield, an attorney with 29 years of public, private, and charitable sector experience in the refugee field, is President and CEO of HIAS, the world's oldest organization dedicated to refugees (founded in 1881 as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society). A global agency guided by Jewish values assisting refugees of all faiths and ethnicities, HIAS works in partnership with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the US government and the government of Canada. Under Hetfield’s leadership, HIAS was the only refugee resettlement agency to file a court challenge against the Trump Administration’s Muslim and refugee ban. In 2016, Hetfield was named to the Forward 50 by America’s leading Jewish newspaper, as one of the 50 Jews with the greatest impact on American life. A frequent commentator on refugee issues in major media, Hetfield holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University.

Registration for dinner has closed to allow time to plan the food order to prepare meals for those who have signed up. We may have a few spots available and will do our best to accommodate walk-ins on a case by case basis. We hope you can join us at our next congregational dinner.
