LJIS: Reading Like a Jewish Writer with Author Joan Leegant
Wednesday Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, 12, and 19 7:45 to 9:00 pm After the enthusiastic response to author Joan Leegant’s class last year, we’ve invited her back for a deeper dive into Jewish literature. We will look at excerpts of Jewish stories, memoirs, and essays asking How do good writers make us care about their stories, the people in them, and their fates? What do they do to transport us to another time and place? Why choices did the writers make the choices they did as to scene, setting, style, and tone. No homework required--we’ll read the material together in each session. Joan Leegant is the author of three prize-winning books of fiction, most recently Displaced Persons, finalist for the 2025 National Jewish Book Award and the Association of Jewish Libraries Fiction Prize. Joan has taught writing for 25 years, including at Harvard, Hebrew College, and Bar-Ilan University. For more about Joan visit: www.joanleegant.com. Tuition for the course is $54. This course is in-person only
