Assistant Director, Youth Engagement (Elementary & Middle school)

The Position

Temple Isaiah seeks a full-time Assistant Director of Youth Engagement (elementary and middle) to work with our vibrant youth community. Working collaboratively with staff and lay leaders, the Assistant Director will ensure that the Temple Isaiah elementary and middle school students have a meaningful and engaging Jewish experience. The Assistant Director will support general religious school education, Hebrew and t’fillah education, as well as formal and informal engagement experiences.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Youth Engagement reports to the Director of Congregational Learning and is responsible for the following:

Classroom Education

  • Teach in the weekly religious school program

  • Coordinate and oversee Onward Hebrew program

  • Coordinate weekly elective program for grades 4 and 5

  • Maintain consistent communication with families, as needed

  • Oversee annual grade based experiences (e.g. kallah, family programs) both for grades working directly with and also as needed for other grades

  • Oversee and coordinate Temple Isaiah’s Boston-Haifa Connection.

  • Teach in the weekly teen program, as needed. 

  • Tutor in the B’Mitzvah program, as needed

T'fillah Education

  • Collaboratively oversee and manage K-7 weekly t’fillah experience. Regularly meeting with clergy and Director of Congregational Learning to establish priorities and goals

  • Ensure continuity and coordination between t’fillah gatherings, t’fillah education, and B’Mitzvah services. 

  • Create materials for various school t’fillah experiences in collaboration with Cantor and Director of Congregational Learning.

  • Oversee 6th Grade Experience, including but not limited to: 

    • Develop and implement a curriculum related to the meaning of t’fillah that is connected to overall religious school and B’Mitzvah experience. 

    • Teach 6th Grade Religious School Class

    • Prepare 6th graders to lead and participate in the annual 6th Grade Creative Service, including preparation of Torah lines and Torah art

    • One to one prayer tutoring for most 6th grade students via Zoom

    • Coordinate and support additional tutoring, as needed

Youth Engagement

  • Create and host a calendar of events for Temple Isaiah Middle School Youth Group, SMALLY (6th and 7th grade), to meet socially. Organize and hire staff when necessary. Keep families and students informed about SMALLY events 

  • Support LEFTY Advisor and Youth Group. LEFTY is Temple Isaiah’s high school youth group. Staff LEFTY events and retreats, as needed. 

  • Coordinate Youth High Holiday Activities. Plan a schedule of activities for grades K - 5 on Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur.

  • Serve as a Moving Traditions Group Leader, as needed. 

  • Offer additional teaching and curriculum support, as needed.

Comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.

Administration. Ability to assess needs and opportunities for success and willingness to improvise, be flexible, and make changes as needed. Able to manage projects and maintain organizational skills in a multi-tasking environment. 

Communication. Effective and efficient verbal and virtual communication skills. Comfortable speaking with various individuals Open and effective communication and a relatable and professional manner with internal and external stakeholders.Strong presentation skills which include a high level of comfort, confidence, and enthusiasm in front of groups of all ages.

Salary

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.
