Isaiah Breakfast Presents Bella, A One Woman Play

Sunday, February 11, 2018 26 Sh'vat 5778

9:15 AM - 11:00 AM

The Brotherhood is thrilled to present, Bella, a play written and performed by Vicki Summers, about the life of her grandmother, Bella Indianer. Bella survived the pogroms in Russia and later emigrated to America in 1920, where she married and raised a family. This is a story of resilience, courage, humor, and love, universal themes that are relevant to all of us. This goal of this play is to bring to life the experiences of a Jewish American immigrant, with all its challenges and rewards. But more importantly, Vicki’s mission is to encourage each of us to learn and record our own family stories so that they won’t get lost in time.

The play is 45 minutes long and will be followed by a Q&A and slideshow. It is appropriate for audiences age 13 and older. It was originally developed and produced at Cape Rep Theatre, Brewster MA, in their Theater lab program for new plays.

Vicki Summers is a professional actress and teacher. Her favorite roles include Blanche in A Streetcar Named Desire, Mrs. Roby in Xingu (with Julie Harris), Molly in Molly Sweenie, Louisa in Nine, Margie in Good People, Aurora in Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Amanda in The Glass Menagerie. In Bella, Vicki brings to life her beloved grandma.

Talks in this series are sponsored by Brotherhood, and include a delicious buffet breakfast of assorted bagels, smoked salmon, pickled herring, whitefish salad, tabbouleh, desserts and more. Breakfast begins at 9:15 a.m. The presentation runs from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and is usually followed by a question and answer session. Admission is $10; free to Brotherhood members.
