The National Alliance on Mental Illness is offering a 12 week course for family caregivers and friends of individuals living with mental health conditions. The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who has their own personal experience and knows what it’s like to have a loved one struggling with these challenges.
The curriculum utilizes a variety of teaching techniques in a small group setting; learning coping skills, handling crisis and relapse, listening and communication skills, problem solving techniques and also medical facts on diagnosis, treatment, the role of medication and various therapies.
Participants have commented that it provided a safe place to learn together and from each other ~ and that they gained greater strengths, support and hope that recovery is real!
