Election 2016, a “Black Swan” Event, according to Allen Sinai, will be nearing one year when he gives his annual Temple Isaiah talk on September 17, his 38th at Temple Isaiah since the mid-1970s. Election 2016 and its aftermath, not unexpectedly according to Allen, has shaken the U.S. and world, including politics in the U.S. due to the uncertainty of a chaotic Trump Administration. Policies, which often derive from politics, and the effects, as well as changes in Washington matter for the U.S. and world economies and financial markets. So far, the U.S. economy and equity market have been moving up merrily in the short-run but Americas remain quite gloomy for the longer-run. This presents a striking dichotomy between the “here-and-now” of U.S. economic performance, between this long Equity Bull Market now as forecasted by Allen in its eighth year and the gloom that pervades the mood of America.

 

In this annual Temple talk Allen will present a scorecard on the year after Election 2016—on politics, policies, the U.S. and global economies and financial markets going forward—what this all might mean to you in your everyday life and pursuits. What are the major dimensions of the “Washington Transformation” that Election 2016 and its Aftermath portend and that might be occurring? What is the state of Trumponomics and of the changes in politics and policies that the Trump Administration and Congress set out to do?  What has been accomplished, good and bad, in this nearly first year since the election?  How is the U.S. economy doing and what are the Prospects for financial markets?  What further progress, or lack thereof, can be expected and what is the outlook for interest rates, the equity market, and investments going forward? These and other questions will form the substance of Allen Sinai’s comments.

 

Dr. Allen Sinai is CEO, Co-Founder and Chief Global Economist and Strategist of Decision Economics. Prior to DE, he was Chief Economist at Lehman Brothers and The Boston Company (1983-96). Prior to Lehman, Dr. Sinai was Chief Financial Economist at Data Resources, Inc. (1971-1983), a pioneer in new techniques of econometric modeling. Dr. Sinai has also been a non-partisan adviser and consultant to multiple facets of the U.S. government including past presidential administrations, House and Senate committees. He meets regularly with fiscal and monetary policy leaders globally including Japan, Europe, and Asia, on current matters relating to the economy, macroeconomic policy and financial markets. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University and an A.B. from the University of Michigan. He and his wife Lee Sinai live in Lexington where they have also raised two children, Todd and Lauren, and they have five grand children.
