Friendly Visits at Isaiah
Friendly Visits at Isaiah is a casual, social, inclusive program hosted by our Isaiah teens. This program welcomes young adults with diverse abilities who are living in the community to visit Temple Isaiah to socialize, play games, craft, enjoy the Nature Center and celebrate Jewish holidays, culture, and traditions. Our visits are on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30 prior to Tichon Isaiah and Friendly Visits at Minuteman ARC. Please stay for dinner.
Friendly Visits at Minuteman ARC (formally Telem)
Friendly Visits at Derby House in Concord (formally Telem) is a service-learning program in which we partner with Minuteman ARC. We leave Isaiah Tuesdays at 6:00 and return by 8:00pm. While visiting the adult residents with diverse abilities at Derby House we socialize, play games, craft, and cook. Embracing our Jewish value B’tselem Elohim, we are all created in Gods imagine, makes visiting with friends each week extra special.
We will work with our partner organization Minuteman Arc, to help support the social needs of adults with developmental disabilities living in group homes. The class includes learning about individuals with different abilities through text study, activities, guest speakers, and movies. We will visit residents of the Minuteman Arc homes, where students will build friendships and create memories through conversation and weekly activities. The Friendly Visit program offers the opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills and ability to connect with people with diverse abilities.
From a parent of a Minuteman Arc Consumer (parent of an adult resident): Thank you so much for bringing your students each week. My daughter didn't want to come home to visit me last week because your group was coming. It means so much to me to know that my daughter can have an independent life and enjoy herself without me. She is always talking about her volunteer friends.
