LEFTY Food Drive 2021

Hi Temple Isaiah!

For the past 30+ years, temple members have collected between 3 and 4 thousand pounds of food per year to donate to the Greater Boston Food Bank for those who are hungry in our community. Last year,  LEFTY hosted a virtual food drive. This year, we will continue to offer a virtual option as well as an in-person option on Yom Kippur. If you choose the virtual option, we are donating money to the Greater Boston Food Bank to buy fresh food for hunger-relief agencies across eastern Massachusetts.

People struggling with food insecurity also struggle with high rates of diet related health issues due to lack of access to healthy food. Our food drive is designed to help them with this type of food. You can donate to this drive by taking two simple, virtual steps:

1. Visit our Give Healthy page and click the green "Donate" button.

2. You will be taken to the Give Healthy website where you can pick out and purchase healthy food items you want to donate!

The food will be delivered once the drive is over and you will receive a tax receipt for  your donation!

This drive is running from now to October. The COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis have hit many families especially hard. Because of this, our goal this year is to donate 5 thousand pounds of food. Please donate what you can to make this a reality!

If you have non-perishable food items at home that you would like to donate to the Greater Boston Food Pantry, we will also have our regular U-Haul out in the parking lot on Yom Kippur between 10:00 am - 2:45 pm, rain or shine. For contactless drop-off, please pull in next to the U-Haul and pop your trunk.

Thank you and Shana tova,
Emily Rosenthal and Noa Helmbrecht (LEFTY Social Action Co-VP’s)
