Rabbi Amy Hertz

Director of Congregational Learning

Rabbi Amy B. Hertz (ahertz@templeisaiah.net), or Rabbi Amy as she is most often called, grew up in Houston, Texas. She attended Jewish day school and was an active member of NFTY, serving both her local and regional youth groups as the Religious and Cultural Vice President. Rabbi Amy also spent summers as a camper, counselor, and educator at Greene Family Camp, the URJ summer camp in Bruceville, Texas. She was very proud to lead the camp in Shabbat morning worship at its recent reunion where she got to reconnect with many cherished friends!

Rabbi Amy received her B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Hebrew Letters and Rabbinic Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Jerusalem and Cincinnati in 2008. During rabbinical school, Rabbi Amy served students throughout Indiana – in Terre Haute, Columbus, and Greencastle at DePauw University. She also was selected to be an Intern in the Department of Youth Programs at HUC, welcoming high school and college students to campus for learning weekends and representing the College-Institute at many national Reform movement events. Rabbi Amy is currently enrolled in HUC-JIR's Executive M.A. Program in Jewish Education.

After ordination, Rabbi Amy served as Rabbi and Director of Life Long Jewish Learning at Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She loved getting to know the members of the congregation and spent much of her time with families, especially those with young children. In fact, Rabbi Amy received an honorary degree from the Rodef Shalom Preschool before she left Pittsburgh!  It was a huge honor.

Rabbi Amy is excited to meet new families and friends at Temple Isaiah and to grow together with this special community.
