A Component of Hineini: The Temple Isaiah Caring Community

Knitzvah is the Temple Isaiah warm and welcoming charity knitting group begun by Cantor Doob when she came to Temple Isaiah. UFO (UnFinished Objects) is a spinoff of Knitzvah. During the pandemic the two groups morphed into Knitzvah/UFO and met weekly on Zoom. After 15 months on Zoom, we are now back INSIDE the Temple, meeting in the library. Knitzvah meets on the 2nd Monday of each month and UFO meets on the 4th Monday of each month. Meetings are from 10 am to 12 noon, live and in-person. Consistent with temple policy, masks are required.

Knitzvah’s original mission was to make shawls and throws for Temple members going through medical issues, but we became so prolific that we began to knit hats and scarves which are donated to area agencies. In the winter of 2020-2021, we made over 300 donations of warm items. While we continue to provide shawls and throws to Temple members, we have expanded our donations to include hats and scarfs to refugee organizations, homeless and domestic abuse shelters, Jewish Family and Children’s Services and an annual “warming night” held to distribute warm clothing to those in need in the Greater Lawrence area.

Please consider joining us for as much time as you are able. Please join us - friendships and conversation are goals as well as donating items.  We look forward to welcoming you.
