Vision Statement for Youth at Temple Isaiah

Young people at Temple Isaiah are a vital and valued part of our synagogue and the larger Jewish community.  They are loved and cared for as part of these communities.

Temple Isaiah’s vision is that our young people will be empowered as Jews on a personal level, as members of the Jewish community and as citizens of the world.  Our hope is that the young people of Temple Isaiah will emerge from our community with:

  • An authentic and confident personal Jewish identity, which includes:
  • An ability to apply Jewish rituals, traditions and values to their own lives wherever they are
  • A recognition of the importance of being both teachers and learners
  • An understanding that being Jewish requires a lifelong openness to spiritual, intellectual, emotional and social growth
  • A path for developing an ever-evolving understanding and relationship with God
  • A strong knowledge of Torah and all the facets, such as history, text and language
  • An obligation to tikkun olam, repairing the world, through tzedakah, gemilut hasadim and acts of social justice
  • A commitment to being part of a Jewish future by helping to sustain the local, national and international Jewish community, based on:
    • An understanding of and pride in Reform Judaism
    • An appreciation for the diversity within the Jewish community and a respect for K'lal Yisrael
    • A connection to the people, land and state of Israel
