About Briley

Briley Newell studied history, political science, and Hebrew at Emory University, and she has been working as a Jewish educator in roles from songleader to classroom teacher since 2015. She moved to Massachusetts with her partner and 100+ houseplants in 2019 to join Temple Isaiah’s full-time education staff. She brings to Temple Isaiah a deep knowledge of Jewish culture and a dedication to Jewish youth education, with a special interest in t'fillah (prayer), Jewish history, and gender and identity education.

Briley is a member of Temple Isaiah’s full-time education staff. Her work in the Religious School focuses on t’fillah education, and includes leading t'fillah experiences for grades 3 through 7, tutoring one-on-one for prayer practice, exploring prayer meaning in the classroom, and managing various digital and physical prayer related materials for the Religious School. She teaches 5th Grade, where she shares a curriculum about prayer, Israel, and holidays. Briley’s work in the teen community focuses on Jewish cultural education, including developing and teaching two Tichon Isaiah classes. Briley also advises SMALLY, our 7th and 8th grade youth group, and directs QUEERY, our youth group for LGBTQ+ teens, in addition to leading our Rosh Chodesh group and running High Holiday programs for the Religious School.
